MediaChain Co., Ltd. Purchase SQM for CD/DVD and
Blu-ray Mastering
[Stockholm, Sweden, May 6th, 2008] Korean disc manufacturer MediaChain (subsidiary company of JMI) has purchased an SQM system together with Technotrans electroforming as a key part of their plans to expand into Blu-ray disc production in the near future. MediaChain will produce Blu-ray, the next generation optical media, in co-operation with JMI, a Microsoft Authorized company in Korea.
The initial system to be installed at the Media Chain plant in Korea will be equipped with a 12x/6R CD/DVD Laser Beam Recorder for high volume mastering and will be fully prepared for the later implementation of a second Laser Beam Recorder with Blu-ray capability. Martin Brown, VP Sales and Marketing at M2 comments "We have the utmost respect for MediaChain with their strong commitment to quality and customer service and are very pleased to have this opportunity to work together with them, both for their current CD/DVD business and when they start with Blu-ray production. Our SQM platform has proven itself for the mastering of CD/DVD and HD-DVD and we fully expect that the simple upgrade path to Blu-ray mastering will further increase the popularity and success of the SQM in the market".
The Blu-ray mastering functionality is achieved on the standard SQM platform by using a uniquely modified, yet simple, photo-resist based process. The use of a photo-resist based process fits easily into an existing infrastructure and allows the cost-effective production of Blu-ray stampers. Mr. Yoon Joong Jung, President of MediaChain adds: "We went through a long and thorough selection procedure before deciding on the SQM as our new mastering system for CD/DVD and Blu-ray. We finally chose the SQM due to the high output of the system, the flexibility and the possibility to easily upgrade to Blu-ray mastering when we start our Blu-ray disc production".
